We hopped on our bus from Saigon to Phnom Pehn, Cambodia. It was a pleasurable ride with very little delays. Crossing the border from Vietnam to Cambodia was relatively easy, sure, they took a couple of extra dollars from each person for themselves – but I guess it comes with the territory. After about an hour of lunch and waiting for our Visa On Arrival - we were on our way. After 2-3 hours we were at the capital of Cambodia and it was dark. We stayed at a guest house that was recommended by some fellow travelers in Dalat and bunkered down in our $8 room. We enjoyed a tastier Japanese meal than we had in Saigon and went home to sleep. The next day we made the most of our morning and hired a Tuk Tuk to take us to the “Killing Fields” and the S-21 Prison which was formerly a high school. It was a really dark and depressing morning going to all these sights that were the stage for such heinous crimes. My whole life I knew little of the Genocide that was committed by Pol Pot's regime in Cambodia. I can't believe it happened, it's so sad what these people had to endure. Pol Pot wanted to rid Cambodia of all educated people and killed those who he believed weren't pure. He favored the country people and put them in power. He also destroyed valuable historical artifacts, books, and anything about Cambodian Culture. After spending time in Phenom Pehn, Before we knew it, it was time to jump on our bus bound for Siem Reap – so we could see Angkor Wat.
